Numerous laboratory and epidemiological studies have shown, that particulate air pollution causes adverse health effects in humans. It is, however, not yet understood which physical or chemical properties of the ambient aerosol particles are responsible for observed effects. The US-EPA has, therefore, launched a intensive research program to characterize the ambient aerosol. Measurements at the Baltimore PM supersite are focused on the short term variability of physical and chemical properties of the ambient aerosol. Furthermore, test tube experiments will help to identify hazardous chemical compounds. This web site is intended to provide information for both interested surfers and collaborators.
