Prospective Students

Here are the top 3 reasons to attend UMD for graduate school

1. You will automatically become a member of the GSO!  Membership is free and so is attendance at all of our events, including meetings and bi-yearly socials.
2. UMD is located between two exciting cities: Washington D.C. and Baltimore and approximately three hours from the beaches of Delaware and Maryland.  Our graduate students have easy access to the Metro system and take part in the many free cultural activities in D.C.
3. The University of Maryland is a dynamic, diverse and exciting campus.  If you have a hobby or activity, UMD has a group or class to make the best of your time outside of the classroom or lab!

If you are interested in speaking with a graduate student or enjoying a tour of our facilities and labs, please contact us at UMDChemistryGSO@gmail.com.

Here are some comments about our program from current and former graduate students

• The instrumentation is top-notch and well-maintained.  Professors are intelligent and are good teachers.  High-quality research and publications, diverse membership of students and events!
• Tia and Diane (in the Graduate Office) always do a great job!  There is good communication via email from them and the GSO.  Everyone in the business office is very competent.
• The departmental seminars have been great!  I have great communication with my advisor.  I am not left wanting any equipment in my lab.
• The department provides a great amount of tools needed to complete my research.  There are many opportunities for collaboration and interdisciplinary research.
