Analytical NMR Service & Research Center

Advanced NMR Instrumentation

The Center has two groups of high resolution NMR spectrometers to meet your needs:

For large numbers of NMR samples that require fast turn-over and quick analyses, the Center is equipped with two high throughput NMR spectrometers both at 400MHz field strength. They are good for product screening with samples of moderate concentrations. Click for more information.

For the best result, we recommend you plan and carry out your project with the latest Advanced spectrometers in the Center.

Pending on the nature of the nuclei under study, one can select any of the three NMR spectrometers, from 400MHz, 500MHz and 600MHz field strength. Details of the capabilities are listed below. Optimization and fine tunings are routinely carried out for all NMR measurements. All measurements can be carried out at controlled temperature. Advanced reservation is highly recommended.

Bruker AV-400 Mhz high resolution (server am400.umd.edu):

  • Four different NMR detectors and temperature controller.
  • Default configuration is inverse gradient probe (BBI) with Z gradient.
  • Good for H-1 2D NMR or dynamic (DOSY) and kinetic projects.
  • Typical application for H-1-- C-13 2D ( HSQC, HMBC, and TOSY-HSQC).
  • Selective Shape pulse excitation (selective NOE, ROE).

Bruker DRX-500 MHz high resolution (server console500.umd.edu)

  • Four RF channels and seven different detectors, configured for a range of nuclei from O-17 to H-1.
  • Inverse probe H-1 (& F-19) with BB decoupling.
  • TXI probe H-1 with N-15 and C13 decoupling with triple gradients.
  • Inverse probe H-1, with Sn-27 and BB decoupling with Z gradient.
  • Best for X-nuclei detection with Bruker BBO probe.
  • Typical X-nuclei (C-13, Si-29, P-31, Pt, Pb, Na, Cs, F-19).
  • Typical applications ( DEPT, APT, H-X HSQC).
  • Selective Shape pulse excitation (selective NOE, ROE).

Bruker AVIII-600MHz (server CHEM600.umd.edu)

  • Higher field dispersion and highest sensitivity for polymers, carbohydrates, and natural products NMR projects or very dilute samples.
  • Four RF transmitters, configured for nuclei from O-17 to H-1.
  • Customed high sensitivity C-13 Detector.
  • Broad band probe with H-1 decoupling with autotune
  • Inverse probe H-1 (& F-19) with BB decoupling.
  • Selective Shape pulse excitation (selective NOE, ROE) at higher field dispersion.
  • Best for H-1 2D NMR or dynamic (DOSY) and kinetic projects.
  • Typical application for H-1-- C-13 2D ( HSQC, HMBC, and TOSY-HSQC).
