Faculty Awards and Recognition

Professor Catherine Fenselau received the Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award, 2008, at the American Chemical Society Spring 2008 National Meeting.  A full description of National Awards to our faculty can be found on our web site.

Professor and Chair Michael Doyle was elected to the Board of Directors of the Council for Chemical Research, and he was appointed Associate Editor for the Royal Society of Chemistry journal, Chemical Communications.
Professor Phillip DeShong was elected as the 2007-2008 Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year at the University of Maryland.  Nominated by one of his students, Peter DeMuth, the award was presented at the opening session at Undergraduate Research Day.

Professor Lawrence Sita has created a form of plastic that is biodegradable.

Professor Lawrence Sita invented a new technology enabling him to develop an infinite variety of safe, pure plastics won the attention of a group of venture capitalists and the title of "Best Inventor Pitch" at Bioscience Day 2007.

The CLFS Research Award, presented annually to a member of the College of Chemical and Life Sciences for a solid research program in basic or applied sciences that has gained significant national and international attention, was awarded to Professor Bryan Eichhorn at the College Award Ceremony in April, 2008.

Dr. Michelle Brooks, a lecturer in the department, was named a 2008-2009 CTE-Lilly Teaching Fellow by the Center for Teaching Excellence and the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland.
