Contributions
In this time of financial need we are happy to recognize the following individuals for their contributions that have directly impacted the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. We also wish to honor those who contribute to the annual giving fund of the university and who have designated their support to this department.
Douglas K. Shaffer Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Endowment - A gift from Douglas Kent Shaffer (B.S. ’72) has been received to support the instrumental analysis undergraduate laboratory in analytical chemistry.
Catherine B. North, M.D., has provided funds to support an undergraduate fellowship named in honor of Emiritus Professor Bruce Jarvis.
For the third consecutive year Dr. Herman Kraybill has provided fellowships to biochemistry graduate students.
The objective of the Cohen Foundation of Maryland is to identify research facilities where funds would be best utilized. What laboratories are taking new and inventive approaches to understand and treat cancer, diabetes, and heart disease? The money raised is donated to the Center for Biomolecular Structure and Organization, directed by Dr. George Lorimer.
Dr. Erik and Mrs. Joyce Young have created an unrestricted enhancement endowment to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
The William J. Bailey Fellowship was augmented this year by gifts in memory of his widow, Mary Caroline Bailey, who died in November. The fund provides needed resources to attract outstanding graduate students.
The Milligan Fellowship Fund was enhanced by donations designated by friends of alumnus Dr. Willie May who asked that contributions be donated to this fund in celebration of his recent birthday.
